About Stellar Drift

Stellar Drift lets you pilot a spacecraft through an endless asteroid field where momentum is both your friend and enemy. Unlike typical shooters, your ship obeys Newtonian physics — thrust in one direction and you keep drifting until you thrust the opposite way. Navigate between asteroids, collect fuel and upgrades, and survive as long as possible in increasingly dense debris fields. Boost gates accelerate you through clear zones, but the aftermath leaves you hurtling at dangerous speeds. Gravitational anomalies pull you off course, and space mines detonate on proximity. The physics-based flight model creates a uniquely satisfying piloting experience where mastering momentum management is the key to high scores.

How to Play

Tips & Strategies

Think ahead — at high speed, you need to start braking long before obstacles appear. Counter-thrust (reverse) is your best friend; tap it frequently to maintain controllable speeds. Fuel management is critical; don't thrust continuously. Coast between obstacles and only thrust for corrections. Gravitational anomalies are visible as purple distortions — plan your path to avoid them or use them as slingshots. Boost gates are tempting but the speed they add can be fatal if the next section is dense. Collect fuel canisters before weapons; you can dodge asteroids but you can't dodge running out of fuel. Small, frequent corrections are better than large emergency maneuvers.

The History Behind Stellar Drift

Stellar Drift's physics model descends directly from Asteroids (1979), the Atari classic where your ship's momentum made control a skill unto itself. Asteroids was one of the first games to use vector graphics and remains one of the most influential arcade games ever. The Newtonian physics concept was later explored in depth by Lunar Lander and the Thrust series. Modern descendants include Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and the space combat in FTL. Fun fact: Asteroids was so popular that Atari had to upgrade their coin boxes to accommodate the flood of quarters. Stellar Drift adds fuel management and environmental hazards to the classic momentum-based space piloting formula.
